Rescue

At Freedom Farms, we believe that horse rescue is as important as the training and showing of our horses. Should anyone have a horse that they no longer want or cannot handle, please contact us before sending the animal to a sale. We have the facilities and network to accept unwanted horses and place them, for adoption, in another home. If you know of horses that are being treated badly and need to be removed from an abusive situation, contact us. We are here for the horses!

The Bottom Line - All of the Nevada 980 horses were saved! The older horses were sent to a wild horse sanctuary in California. The younger horses were taken to Franklin, TX, for preliminary training and shipping to their new homes. January, 2003, was an awesome month! We have left the stories carried in the newspaper. Out of this rescue, the largest ever done in the United States, has come a national network of rescues that have opted to become part of a national horse rescue foundation. The state of Nevada was so overwhelmed at the job done on The Nevada 980 Project, they have offered us two other groups of horses for rescue. Another 1,800 horses that need loving homes! To date, we have had no word on the status of this second group of horses, however please don't hesitate to contact us!

Another Rescue Option - Since the Nevada 980 Project, many people have called or emailed us, asking for ways to adopt abused or neglected horses. While there is no organization for horse rescue in Oklahoma, we are advising those of you wanting to do your own horse rescue to go to a horse auction! There are monthly sales in Tulsa, at the Stockyards, and in Bristow. Many horses that do no sell are purchased by slaughterhouses and shipped off. The several times we have been at the sale, good well broke horses were going very inexpensively! Examples: An 8 year old AQHA finished roping gelding went for $800.00. A well broke 10 year old grade mare went for $450.00. Ponies are an exception - the prices on them are still relatively high, as they are still in demand. Check out those sale barns! You may find a friend for life!
